2010 Summer Camping — Who's Your Hero?

It takes guts to live Christ's example in our world — whether at work, home or at school. Summer camp gives us a place for recreation and regeneration, as well as a place to discover (and for some of us, rediscover) more about who we are in Christ. This year, we offer the traditional camps we have had in the past that are grade specific, as well as Basketball Camp and Soccer Camp. Each camp will help kids find courage to know Christ and the courage to make Him known. Who knows, maybe the kids will find out they can be a hero to others as they learn to imitate Christ's courage.

CENTRAL REGION LIFE:106 Years of Continuous Publication
Share in the Tradition - Share News of Your Church
Is your church among those sending in stories and photos to be included in Central Region Life and preserved for future generations? Installations, new members, mission work groups, and events open to all across the region are just a few of the topics featured each month. Send photos and information to The Editor, American Baptist Churches, 5833 S.W. 29th St., Ste. A, Topeka, KS 66614-5505.

Focus on Prayer
The Region’s Board of Directors highlights a prayer focus each month. In August, the emphasis is on back to school. Let us pray for our children and youth as they prepare to return to school, that in working with their teachers they might have the mind and attitude of Jesus age twelve as He met with the scholars at the temple in Jerusalem.
Luke 2:46-47“After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.” (NIV)

Huffaker Family Gives $96,000 for Urban Core Initiative
A recent gift of $96,000 marks the third significant gift from the Huffaker Family Fund for Central Seminary's Urban Core Initiative. A significant portion of the funding will provide scholarships to students who are completing a Master of Arts in Missional Church Studies in the context of the metropolitan Kansas City area. UCI Director Wallace S. Hartsfield said, "The generosity expressed by the Huffakers makes it possible for Central to provide a course of study that integrates theological and urban studies, which is needed for doing ministry in a postmodern setting." Anyone interested in learning more about Central's Urban Core Initiative program - the degree offering in urban ministry, scholarships, and partnerships - should contact the Urban Core Initiative Coordinator, Debra Sermons.
